Traditional Chinese Medicine
The Traditional Chinese Medicine Department was founded in 1988. It was the earliest and the largest Chinese Medicine Center in southern Taiwan. The department was certified as the qualified traditional Chinese medicine training hospital by the Committee of Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy (CCMP) in Tainan at the years of 2003, 2006 and 2009.

Upon the establishment of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department, We aim at “based on traditional Chinese medicine and aided with modern Western medicine” in treatment with our patients. Through the integration of these two streams, we are able to provide our patients with high-quality but low-cost service. For many years, most of our staff have dual MD license and received training from both modern western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Our members include internal medicine, surgical, obstetric, and pediatric specialists.

There are a lot of notable achievements in our clinical research. For example, for allergic rhinitis, we developed a new treatment modality (San-Fu-Tien) using topical herbal application over the patients’ acupoints. With this new method, we successfully improve our patients' symptoms and living quality. Blood eosinophil counts of the patients have also decreased dramatically.

For endocrine related disorders, we developed a new combination of traditional Chinese herbs as adjuvant to treat diabetes and obesity. Most of our patients showed lower body weight, lower blood sugar level, and lower blood lipid level. The effect of this treatment is better than using only western medication.

The achievement of acupuncture study is also significant. Except for the well-known effects of relieving muscle sprain symptoms, our expertise use acupuncture to treat cerebral palsy and other neurologic disability. These treatments make our patients gain better results in the recovery of their extremities motion, speech ability, and intelligence.

In the field of hepatobiliary tract, the use of traditional Chinese medicine can improve the patients’ liver function. For severe cases, this can be used as adjuvant combined with interferon to treat patients.

Our current clinical research projects, especially those on the effects resulted by the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and modern western medicine, are developing rapidly. We hope our effort can help more patients and make a contribution to traditional Chinese medicine in the near future.
