Pharmacy
Our department was established in May of 1988 and initially divided into 3 groups: pharmacy, pharmaceutical storage and pharmaceutical preparing. Then, there were a total of 7 pharmacists in our department. Admission single daily dosage service was launched in 1989. In 1998, the automatic dispensing machine, Tosho, was purchased to assist our UD service. The Nutrient Supple Team (NST) was formed to provide total parenteral nutrition (TPN) clinical services in 1992. The traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, which originally belonged to the traditional Chinese Medicine Department, was combined into our department in 1993. In 1999, the group of clinical pharmaceutical service was set up and started the therapeutical dose monitoring (TDM), the hospitalized patients visiting, the adverse drug reporting (ADR) and other clinical pharmaceutical services. Chemotherapy dispensing group was formed in 2003. Plenty of softwares and hardwares had been utilized to aid the dispensing safety of pharmacists.

In order to improve the clinical pharmaceutical service quality, we also have some profession clinical pharmacists with master degrees of the Clinical Pharmacy Institute. Totally, there are 38 pharmacists serving in our department.

By 1996, patients could acquire drug-information in need via a single-window in the Outpatient Pharmacy. Drug information computerized system was built in both our hospital network and our lobby to provide fast and convenient drug-related information in the year of 2005. In order to safeguard patient privacy and provide a more comfortable environment for the consultation, we expanded the drug service from foot-standing window into a comfortable environment as the independent specific consulting room coming into existence in 2008. In the year of 1998, we started holding videoconference with our colleagues from Show Chwan Health Care System. Two years after, those from Shin Lau Hospital and Gang Shan Hospital joined our department to hold clinical pharmaceutical seminars monthly. In 2005, there are up to 7 interorganizational pharmacy departments joining our monthly discussion.

We encourage our pharmacists to improve their professional skills and knowledge via continuing education. Many pharmacists have completed all the courses of college or graduate school. Until now, more than 90% of pharmacists have the bachelor or master degrees. The pharmacist promoting system established in 2001 makes the pharmacists’ promotion system lucid and reasonable.

We accept some committed students from various pharmaceutical colleges to our practice training courses annually. Furthermore, we hold pharmacist continual education programs regularly as well.

The continuously improvement of the clinical pharmaceutical services is our proposed goal. The improvement of service quality is our mission. We also regard the maintenance and advocacy of community drug safety as our duty. The principles of ‘Concentrating on the quality, being innovate in skills, and treating patients as our family’ will be the cornerstone of our efforts.
