Emergency
Our Department began its operation as the “emergency room” in 1988 when the hospital came into existence. At that time, the emergency room had 30 ping (about 99.17m2) which was shared by the internal medicine, the surgical observation beds, as well as a CPR area. In those days, doctors from internal medicine and surgery took turns to visit ER.

To meet the needs of our growing patients, our hospital built Show Chwan Medical Building in 1997, which was donated to the City Hall at the same year, and our outpatient service department was moved to this new building. The expansion project for the emergency treatment room began in 1998 by referring to the designs of other hospitals and by consultation with some ER specialists in Taiwan. Therefore, a brand new ER room was built. Our new ER Department is measured as 260 ping (about 859.5m2), with the observation capacity of 40-bed and a CPR area of 2-bed. As a result, the emergency room was promoted and became “the emergency department” in 1998.

In 1998, the Department is the recipients of external funding for “the medical service facility settlement in sexual assault incident, Ministry of Interior”. Therefore, a new space for “sexual assault case examination” and “interview room” were built to guarantee that all victims against from further insults after injured.

We offer “ACLS Program” for clinicians and “CPR Training” for employees. We also respond to the requirement of CPR training for people in Tainan area. Designated by National Fire Agency, Ministry of Interior, we offer “Emergency Medical Technician-II Practical Training Program” from the year of 2007. We also held concurrent moerate level verification for “Hospital Emergency Medical Care Capabilities Program” in 2009.

To improve our healthcare quality, we collected and analyzed our cases following the guidelines of Taiwan Healthcare Indicator Series (THIS), issued by Taiwan College of Healthcare Executives, which we joined as a member in 1991.

The staffs of our Emergency Department hold the spirit of “treat patients as our own family” into the care of patients and will devote our efforts in creating a harmonious emergent treatment environment. What the future holds for us, and more particularly for healthcare in general, is unknown but we are optimistic that we will meet the growing demands of this community.
