The Department of Dermatology was established in 1988. At that time, we had only one room and several instruments including the microscopy, local electrical caugulation, and wood’s light. Nowadays, there are three outpatient rooms, a laser room and a phototherapy room. Two lasers that we have are ruby laser CO2 laser. The former one is still the best of choice in deep-pigmented skin lesions as it is the most absorbed wavelength by melanocyte and does least damage to the surrounding tissue. The latter one is an effective laser for tissue ablation. It erases the unwanted lesions and cauagate the surrounding vessels leaving a less bleeding result. Both the laser has benefited the Tainan city citizens a good-looking face. We have UVA and UVB phtotherapy instrument which provide the whole body therapy. With the help of Show Chwan Hospital, we have the ability to perform melanocyte autograft. It benefits the stable vitiligo patient to recover his normal appearing.
