Dental Department
The three goals of our Dental Department are: to provide the high quality dental services for our patients; to provide a good training program for our residents; and to build a good working environment for our staffs.
In our Dental Department, 21 dental chairs are available. We have more than 20 dentists, and more than 20 dental assistants. We have state-of-the-art facilities. So far, over 3,000 patients are served per month. Although we are named after “Tainan Municipal Hospital,” we serve not only the people of Tainan city. One third of our patients come from Tainan County, Chaiyi, Kaohsiung, and even from Taipei. In the surveys for service satisfaction, our Dental Department is always ranked as the top unit in policy and in dental quality.
Every year, there are many graduate students applying for resident training program at our hospital, but only 1-2 residents will be accepted per year. We have a comprehensive training program that includes preclinical intensive course, extraoral practice, minimum requirement, chair-side teaching, and conference held every day at noon. We also offer board-certificate residency or fellowship programs with the following society: Academy of Endodontology, the Association of Family Dentistry, R.O.C. and Academy of Oral Implantology, R.O.C. Every year, our dentists always actively participate in the academic conferences held by various Associations. We encourage our staff to make presentations and posters at various conferences. The residency program lasts for five years: the first two years in general dentistry training and the last three years in subspecialists training.
At present, we have more than twenty dental assistants who allow us to provide our very famous “four-handed dentistry” services. We also spend much time to create a sweet environment for our patients. Oil paintings and medical arts are used to decorate our clinic. We hope that our patients enjoy their visit to our clinic and feel like inside a museum. We believe that this would ease their anxiety during their dental treatment. With all these efforts, we always won the champion in the “5S” competition held by our hospital.
We complied with our government’s health policy and cooperated with dental associations to improve the overall oral health quality of the public. Various initiatives are taken such as providing oral examination for students, check-ups for betel-nut chewers, and screen of oral cancer patients.
Although we receive a lot of recognition from our patients and the hospital, we are still always trying to improve. We are committed to work harder and provide better services to our patients.
