Community Service
With the belief of commitment to our community, Tainan Municipal Hospital actively participate in community healthcare promotion, and take great responsibilities to public health in Great Tainan area. As the pioneer of ROT hospital in Taiwan, we hope to implement the preventive medicine services, to build a community health care network, to dedicate to medical professionals, and to go deeply into family and community as a gatekeeper to public health.

In 1999, we initiated Community Health Department and Anping Community Health Centers. The development strategy of in-depth community health services let us provide services such as various kinds of community-based integrated screening, community health education lecture courses, community health management and in support of emergency medical services in mass gathering activities.

In 2003, to fulfill our President Min-Ho Huang’s belief “Blood pressure measured, there is blessing for all the people”, we launched into the setup of community blood pressure stations under the auspices of the Minghui Foundation as well as with the power of the community. We encourage community residents formed volunteer teams to take their neighborhood’s blood pressure. In 2007, we further cooperated with convenience stores such as 7-11 and Family Mart to set up 24-hour community blood pressure station. Our community blood pressure stations spread throughout the Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan. Currently, there are 155 community blood pressure stations with the service volume of over 60 thousand each year.

In 2005, led by Yi Chen, vice superintendent, we cooperated with multidisciplinary departments such as medical, nursing, and administrative to form the committee of community health promotion, which aims at being a good healthcare neighbor for community residents to provide diversified healthcare service.

For us, the issue of community health promotion is the dedication of all costs. Because we pay much attention to launch this issue, we instill a lot of physical and mental health information into community residents, and thus also affect the behavior of healthy living. In recent years, we are continually thinking about how to serve our community by innovative approach, such as community pressure stations, in-depth community health education work, cooperated with local primary care clinic to form community-based medical care system, the establishment of the island’s first smoke-free shopping zone at Anping District and so on. Our vice president Yi Chen said that communities are like sponges, which would absorb what you give. At the beginning, our efforts could hardly achieve better performance immediately, like the old sayings ”set up a pole and see its shadow”, but these efforts will fully reward us in the future. With such a belief, we will enjoy everything we pay without regret.

In addition to our outreach program, the Community Health Department also introduces all these efforts into the healthcare quality circle. In 2007, we choose high-quality community blood pressure stations as our topic to participate the nationwide contest held by Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation and won Silver Award at the group of quality improvement project. At the very same year, we also obtain the Merit Awards at the group of institutional systematic quality improvement. As a successor to quality improvement, we obtained Silver Award again by the quality improvement project of “Using the Balanced Scorecard to evaluate the performance of the community blood pressure stations” in 2008. With respect to research outcome, we published nearly 30 academic papers.

Currently, our community service activities are approximately 500 each year. Being a good healthcare neighbor for community is the goal we are striving toward in the future. We will substantially dedicate ourselves to improve our service quality to make community services more complete.
